Position Summary
In this role, you will assist in executing treatment plans as directed by the supervising occupational and/or physical therapist. Your responsibilities will include monitoring patient progress, performing administrative tasks, and ensuring a safe and clean environment. You will exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering connections with therapists, medical staff, patients, and their families. Your ability to lead group activities and inspire patient participation is essential, as is your capacity to adapt to a dynamic workload.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement exercise programs for patients, both individually and in groups, and assist with gait training as directed by the physiotherapist.
  • Facilitate safe patient transfers and demonstrate proper lifting techniques to nursing staff and families as instructed.
  • Conduct individual Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training to promote patient independence as guided by the occupational therapist.
  • Lead therapeutic activity groups under the supervision of an occupational therapist on a weekly basis.
  • Organize and maintain therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of therapy spaces and equipment.
  • Complete documentation and workload records promptly.
  • Mentor OTA/PTA students as a preceptor.
Qualifications
  • Diploma from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) program.
  • Proficiency in applying physiotherapeutic modalities.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Experience in an acute medical inpatient setting.
  • Competence in computer use, including MS Word and patient information systems.
  • Bilingualism in French/English is an asset.
