Company Overview
At North York General Hospital (NYGH), we are dedicated to providing exceptional patient care. Our commitment to excellence extends from the boardroom to the bedside, ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality of care. As a prominent community academic hospital in Canada, we focus on integrated patient-centered care, enhanced education, research, and innovation. We are part of a collaborative health partnership aimed at developing a locally integrated health system for our community.

Position Summary
As a Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Assistant in the Neuro/Stroke Medicine unit, your primary responsibility will be to execute treatment plans established by the supervising occupational and/or physical therapist. You will observe and report any changes in patient conditions, perform administrative tasks, and maintain a safe and clean environment. Your role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to connect effectively with therapists, physicians, staff, patients, and their families while upholding a high level of professionalism. You will lead group sessions to encourage patient participation and will need to adapt to a physically demanding and dynamic work environment. Your organizational skills and critical thinking abilities will be essential as you collaborate within an inter-professional team. This role also supports the hospital's educational mission by contributing to teaching and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Implement exercise programs for patients, both individually and in groups, as directed by the physiotherapist. Assist with patient transfers, demonstrating safe lifting techniques and proper body mechanics to nursing staff and families. Facilitate individual Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training to promote patient independence as instructed by the occupational therapist. Conduct therapeutic activity groups under the supervision of an occupational therapist on a regular basis. Organize and manage therapy equipment and supplies. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of therapy equipment and spaces. Complete documentation and workload data promptly. Serve as a mentor to Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant students.
Qualifications
Diploma from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) program. Ability to apply physiotherapeutic modalities effectively. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Experience in an acute medical inpatient setting. Proficient in computer skills, including MS Word, internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems. Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
What We Offer
Working at NYGH means being part of a dynamic team of healthcare professionals in one of Canada's leading hospitals. This position is part-time and temporary, with shifts that include days and weekends in the Neuro/Stroke department. We provide a competitive compensation package, including pay in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, along with the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan.

Note: As a condition of employment, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.
