Position Overview
Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Assistant, Neuro/Stroke Medicine
Your primary responsibility in this role is to execute treatment plans as directed by the supervising occupational and/or physical therapist. You will observe and report any changes in patient conditions, perform administrative tasks, and ensure a clean and safe environment. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential as you will interact with therapists, physicians, staff, patients, and their families. You will lead group sessions to encourage patient participation and thrive in a physically demanding and dynamic environment. Your adaptability to changing workloads and strong organizational skills will be key to your success. As a critical thinker, you will work collaboratively within an inter-professional team. This role also supports the hospital's academic mission by enhancing care through education and research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement exercise programs for patients, both individually and in groups, and assist with gait training as instructed by the physiotherapist.
- Facilitate safe patient transfers, demonstrating proper lifting techniques and body mechanics to nursing staff and patients' families as directed by the occupational and/or physical therapist.
- Conduct individual Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training to promote patient independence as prescribed by the occupational therapist.
- Lead therapeutic activity groups under the supervision of an occupational therapist on a weekly basis.
- Prepare and manage equipment and supplies necessary for therapy.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of therapy equipment and spaces.
- Complete documentation and workload data promptly.
- Serve as a mentor to Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) students.
Qualifications
- Diploma from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) program.
- Ability to utilize physiotherapeutic modalities effectively.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Experience in an acute medical inpatient setting.
- Proficient in computer applications, including MS Word, internet research, data entry, and patient information systems.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.

This position is part-time and temporary, with 8-hour shifts that include days and weekends in the Neuro/Stroke department.
