Position Overview:

The City of Toronto is seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of Facility Operations Assistant. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and effective management of recreational facilities, including arenas and swimming pools. The successful candidate will engage in a range of responsibilities, from equipment upkeep to general maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe functioning of recreational facilities, including arenas and aquatic centers.
  • Conduct minor repairs on equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Execute cleaning duties and participate in seasonal maintenance initiatives.
  • Generate reports regarding facility operations and any incidents that occur.
  • Inspect and manage HVAC systems, refrigeration units, and grounds maintenance tools.
  • Operate ice resurfacing machinery and maintain the quality of ice surfaces.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of swimming pools and water parks.
  • Prepare equipment for various events and activities.
  • Conduct pool and arena readings, maintaining accurate records.
  • Provide training and guidance to fellow staff members.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the operation of arenas, pools, and associated equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Class "G" Driver's License is required.
  • Ability to operate ice resurfacing and maintenance machinery effectively.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Ability to uphold fire and safety standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends.
  • Certification in Standard First Aid and other relevant qualifications.
