Position Overview

As a Rail Car Maintenance Trainee, you will engage in a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and functionality of rail vehicles. This is a permanent position that offers a structured training program.

Work Environment
  • Work Language: English
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Education Required: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • Experience: No prior experience necessary; training will be provided
Work Site Conditions
  • Environment may be noisy
  • Exposure to dirt and dust
  • Work may be conducted outdoors
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of both the interior and exterior components of freight, passenger, and urban transit rail cars to identify defects and assess wear and damage.
  • Interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Repair and restore damaged metal and wooden components.
  • Operate mobile cranes and forklifts as required.
  • Assist in the repair and installation of railway car parts.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to fellow apprentices.
Safety and Security
  • Completion of a criminal record check is mandatory.
  • Verification of a valid driver's license is required.
Transportation Requirements
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Access to a personal vehicle is required.
Physical Demands
  • Role is physically demanding, involving the handling of heavy loads.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Requires attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Involves bending, crouching, and kneeling.
Tools and Equipment
  • Steel-toed safety boots are required.
