Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada PHSA Full time
Clinical Laboratory Geneticist
Division of Genome Diagnostics, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Regular Full-Time Position

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled Clinical Laboratory Geneticist to join the Division of Genome Diagnostics.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Division's leadership and a team of medical professionals, including Cytogeneticists, Molecular Geneticists, and Laboratory Scientists.

Your responsibilities will include establishing strong relationships and delivering timely and expert consultative services to healthcare providers, ensuring accurate case interpretation, overseeing technical operations, and maintaining compliance with CCMG/RCPSC/DAP standards and guidelines. You will also engage in the development and implementation of new testing methodologies, contribute to Division and hospital initiatives related to laboratory genetics and genomics, and participate in quality assurance and administrative committees.

As a candidate recommended for appointment to the Clinical Faculty at the University of British Columbia (UBC), you will be expected to actively participate in academic teaching, research, or administrative duties.

The Tier F Department is committed to providing laboratory and pathology diagnostic services to the province's perinatal women, infants, and children, including those facing complex medical challenges. This includes provincial specialty laboratories focused on prenatal screening, newborn screening, biochemical genetics, and inherited constitutional genetics and genomics.

The Department's mission involves collaborating within the PHSA to establish provincial standards and guidelines, leading pilot projects to assess the clinical utility of emerging diagnostic technologies, and contributing to national and international efforts to enhance access to quality laboratory care and best practices.

The Division of Genome Diagnostics is tasked with delivering academic pediatric, adult, and maternal-fetal medicine services across the province, primarily focusing on diagnosing inherited diseases through genetic and genomic techniques.

We are at the forefront of advancing genome-wide sequencing, fostering a dynamic environment that is adaptable and responsive to the rapid evolution of the medical field.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience as a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist, with a strong background in constitutional genetic and genomic testing.

A PhD in Genetics or a related discipline is required, along with certification or eligibility for certification in Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, or Genetic & Genomic Diagnostics from the Canadian College of Medical Genetics (CCMG).

Preference will be given to candidates with dual expertise in molecular and cytogenetics, or a minimum of three years of experience working as a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist in a clinical setting, along with specialized training in laboratory medical operations.

We encourage all qualified individuals to consider this opportunity.

Note: Applicants from outside Canada must be eligible for CCMG certification; ongoing employment requires successful attainment and maintenance of CCMG certification.

Salary and hospital rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
