Correctional Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and secure custody, control, and supervision of adult offenders in our correctional facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide dynamic supervision of adult offenders and maintain a safe and secure environment within the facility.
- Participate in the case management of adult offenders, including approving and arranging professional and personal visits, and escorting offenders within the facility.
- Respond to adult offender complaints and requests, and assist in the completion of forms and reports.
- Supervise facility cleaning and maintenance activities, and submit maintenance work orders as required.
- Advise adult offenders of available programs and refer them to the posted program schedule.
- Record and communicate information through reports, forms, logbooks, email, and JEIN documentation.
We are looking for candidates with a High School diploma and 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Typical equivalencies include a certificate/diploma from an accredited Correctional Officer program or a University degree in a related field of study.
Experience in law enforcement, security, or the military is considered an asset, as is previous employment as a Correctional Officer. Knowledge or experience in a computerized/automated environment is also an asset.
