Position Overview:

The Manitoba Metis Federation is seeking to fill four full-time summer Conservation Specialist roles within our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department. The selected candidates will play a vital role in supporting the execution and management of conservation initiatives across Manitoba. Responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks including environmental fieldwork, data collection and analysis, collaboration with MMF personnel, engagement with Red River Métis Citizens, and support for environment-focused summer programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to various fieldwork locations and events as required during the summer.
  • Assist in the organization and management of scheduling, logistics, and events.
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained in a clean, organized, and functional state.
  • Support the winterization and storage of equipment and supplies at the conclusion of the program.
  • Contribute to daily work logs, safety documentation, and seasonal reporting.
  • Foster and maintain both internal and external relationships essential for the tasks at hand.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a relevant field.
  • Experience in land-based education is considered an asset.
  • Wilderness First Aid, First Aid, and CPR certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience working in outdoor environments, particularly in challenging weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of conservation practices and an understanding of Manitoba's ecosystems.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
  • Experience collaborating with boards and/or committees is preferred.
  • Experience with not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous communities is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Métis culture and MMF programs and services is highly valued.
  • Ability to travel, possessing a valid Manitoba driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
