Job Summary:

The Manitoba Metis Federation is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Conservation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the preparation and implementation of conservation projects throughout Manitoba.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with environmental field work, data collection, and analysis to support conservation efforts;
  • Collaborate with MMF staff to develop and implement conservation projects;
  • Engage with Red River Métis Citizens to promote environmental awareness and community involvement;
  • Support environment-focused summer day camps and other related initiatives;
  • Travel to field work sites and events as required;
  • Manage and undertake scheduling, logistics, and events;
  • Ensure equipment is clean, organized, and in good working order;
  • Assist with winterizing and storage of equipment and supplies;
  • Maintain daily work logs, safety records, and seasonal reporting;
  • Build and maintain internal and external relationships as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary schooling in a related field;
  • Land-based education considered an asset;
  • Wilderness First Aid, First Aid, and CPR training is an asset;
  • Experience working in open, outdoor environments, in adverse weather conditions;
  • Understanding of conservation and environmental work, including general knowledge of Manitoba ecosystems;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite;
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills;
  • Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs, and services is a definite asset;
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a similar role or industry;
  • Knowledge of conservation and environmental policies and procedures;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
