Position Overview:

The Manitoba Metis Federation is seeking to hire four full-time summer Conservation Specialists within our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department. The selected candidates will play a vital role in supporting the execution and management of conservation initiatives across Manitoba. Responsibilities will encompass environmental fieldwork, data collection and analysis, collaboration with MMF personnel, engagement with Red River Métis Citizens, and facilitation of environment-focused summer camps, among other assigned tasks. A willingness to travel overnight is essential, with most activities occurring within a reasonable distance from Winnipeg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to various fieldwork locations and events as required throughout the summer;
  • Assist in organizing and managing scheduling, logistics, and events;
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, organized, and functioning properly;
  • Support the winterization and storage of equipment and supplies at the conclusion of the program;
  • Contribute to daily work logs, safety documentation, and seasonal reports;
  • Establish and maintain essential internal and external relationships for effective project execution;

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program related to environmental science or a similar field;
  • Land-based education is considered advantageous;
  • Wilderness First Aid, First Aid, and CPR certifications are beneficial;
  • Experience in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions;
  • Knowledge of conservation practices and a general understanding of Manitoba's ecosystems;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities;
  • Experience working with boards or committees is preferred;
  • Experience with not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous communities is an asset;
  • Familiarity with Métis culture and MMF programs is a definite advantage;
  • Ability to travel, possessing a valid Manitoba driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
