Job Title: Public Education Curriculum Specialist

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is seeking a highly skilled Public Education Curriculum Specialist to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of municipal fire prevention and public safety education programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver curriculum for fire safety education programs, including needs assessment, planning, and platform delivery.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure programs meet provincial legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and assist in the delivery of public education materials by other parties.
  • Participate in the development of HRFE and public safety policies.
  • Seek innovative and evidence-based solutions to further public safety education objectives.
  • Produce educational videos and digital presentations to inform the public on fire reduction and suppression techniques.
  • Collaborate with corporate partners to prepare media releases and marketing information.
  • Analyze fire incident statistics to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Lead the development and delivery of public safety education programs for external and internal audiences.
  • Coordinate special events and develop partnerships with community groups and businesses.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing support and guidance to internal staff and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education in marketing, public administration, or communications is an asset.
  • Two years' experience conducting public presentations and developing public education programming is an asset.
  • Experience in e-Learning and innovative engaging practices is considered an asset.
  • Ability to obtain NFPA-related training.
Technical/Job-Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of the Fire Safety Act, Province of Nova Scotia, and related legislation.
  • Thorough knowledge of current public safety and education programs.
  • Knowledge of business-related software and technology.
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional methodologies and technology-enabled design and learning methods.
