HSE Lead

The HSE Lead position is a pivotal role based on-site, tasked with overseeing essential functions such as HSE reporting, site documentation audits, and serving as the communication bridge between project locations and the office concerning all health and safety matters. This role includes conducting weekly site inspections, delivering HSE training, and facilitating site-specific orientations.

The HSE Lead is expected to be a cooperative team member, dedicated to achieving the strategic goals of Arbutus Properties by synchronizing field operations with office activities, managing the Safety Program, and providing procurement assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate monthly corporate safety meetings and Occupational Health and Safety Committee gatherings;
  • Develop HSE reference materials for site staff (Safety Meetings, Toolbox Talks, etc.);
  • Review and audit safety documentation through BIS Safety / SafeTapp;
  • Ensure personnel training is verified and organized as necessary;
  • Maintain and refresh the company training matrix;
  • Conduct weekly inspections across all active project sites;
  • Oversee incident reporting and lead investigations following incidents;
  • Manage subcontractor prequalification processes and ensure compliance with all health and safety documentation requirements (approved prequalification, subcontractor agreements, insurance documentation, and WCB clearance);
  • Deliver safety orientations for new employees and projects, ensuring all safety documentation is organized and accessible (i.e., safety certifications, completed safety training, operator competencies, emergency contact details);
  • Compile and present HSE statistics and reports weekly and monthly for performance assessments and to uphold the company's HSE metrics;
  • Update online safety platforms and corporate statistics quarterly for bidding purposes;
  • Assist in drafting project-specific HSE plans and necessary documentation prior to project initiation;
  • Ensure all physical safety documentation is current and distributed to sites at the start of projects (HSE plans, OH&S manuals, policies);
  • Engage in the annual review of the corporate HSE program;
  • Act as a resource for all field personnel;
  • Perform additional HSE-related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in HSE
  • Field safety experience within the construction sector
  • Proven mentorship capabilities and the ability to lead by example
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of fostering a positive safety culture
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits.
