Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Family Newborn Care Unit plays a vital role within an interdisciplinary team, delivering holistic and evidence-based care tailored to the needs of individuals and families. The RN leads nursing assessments and is responsible for the planning, execution, and evaluation of care aimed at promoting health and preventing illness.
In this role, the RN will cultivate professional relationships with colleagues to enhance the effectiveness of the interprofessional team and ensure quality care for patients and families. Individualized care plans will be developed based on the unique goals and needs of patients, utilizing nursing expertise, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
The RN will engage in various functions to provide comprehensive healthcare, including patient education and care coordination. This position contributes to the reputation of excellence in the Maritime community and beyond, fostering partnerships that support a sustainable healthcare system.
Adhering to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards, the RN is accountable for delivering family-centered nursing care to postpartum women, infants, and their families, in alignment with the mission and values of IWK Health.
Work Schedule
Shifts consist of 11.25 hours, with a rotation of two days, two nights, followed by five days off.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required (candidates with equivalent experience may be considered).
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.
- Preferred experience in mother-baby nursing.
- Willingness to orient to all duties within the Family Newborn Care Unit.
- NRP Certification is an asset.
- IBCLC certification is considered beneficial.
- Commitment to family-centered maternity care is essential.
- Proficiency in additional languages is an advantage.
