About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Cancer Information Specialist to join our team at the Canadian Cancer Society. As a key member of our Cancer Information Helpline, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and accurate information to individuals affected by cancer, their loved ones, and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to cancer-related inquiries from clients through phone, Live Chat, and email, providing empathetic support and accurate information on cancer diagnoses, treatments, side effects, coping strategies, and more.
  • Assess client needs and provide tailored information and resources, ensuring a high-quality experience for each interaction.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, using active listening and supportive care skills to create a compassionate environment.
  • Collaborate with the Cancer Information department to identify information gaps and share resources to meet client needs.
  • Participate in special projects and knowledge transfer activities to advance core knowledge and skills, such as COVID-19 protocols, AYA and onco-fertility, and advanced cancer experiences.
  • Contribute to the CCS mission data strategy, KPI reporting, and helpline operational efficiencies by collecting and entering client data in the CRM.
Requirements
  • More than 1 year, up to and including 3 years of practical or job-related experience.
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, dietetics, or a related field.
  • Previous or current registration in a Regulated Health Professional College (e.g., College of Nurses of Ontario) preferred.
  • Experience in a front-line, public-facing professional environment or role.
  • An excellent command of English in oral and written forms; bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Ability to multi-task and navigate the CCS ecosystem to identify and source information to address client concerns.
  • Strong client service, supportive care, communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong information management and analytic skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Data management and database acumen, with the ability to sensitively collect personal information from clients.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex cancer information in a clear and understandable manner.
