Position Overview

The LEO SOC Systems Specialist will play a crucial role in establishing the control framework for an innovative satellite constellation. This position involves integrating cutting-edge software technologies to create a high-assurance containerized satellite control environment. You will collaborate closely with architects and satellite engineers to grasp the comprehensive Concept of Operations (ConOps) while developing in-house containerized software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and sustain the infrastructure (on-premises cloud/containers) that supports operational systems.
  • Design, oversee, and enhance the Lightspeed satellite control systems for Telesat's next-generation LEO constellation.
  • Contribute to fulfilling system requirements for all components of the satellite control systems, including real-time command and telemetry processing, flight dynamics, space situational awareness, data management, encryption, and operations automation.
  • Create and maintain software related to operational systems, including spacecraft data storage, visualization tools, and automation solutions.
  • Support other satellite operations teams in utilizing control systems and related functionalities.
  • Engage in the procurement process for satellite operations systems, including acceptance testing and training.
  • Collaborate with Lightspeed satellite engineering teams to ensure operational systems meet the needs of the Lightspeed constellation.
  • Develop mission operations procedures for various phases, including Launch and Early Operations Phase (LEOP) and In-Orbit validation, while conducting necessary training and simulations.
  • Establish and implement robust automation processes to streamline operations and enhance reliability for satellite management.
  • Oversee and maintain the GEO satellite operations systems currently utilized for Telesat's geosynchronous fleet.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, or Mathematics.
  • Extensive experience in operational systems, with a minimum of 9 years in similar roles.
  • Proficiency with modern operating systems, programming languages, and frameworks.
  • Experience with on-premises clusters and containerized environments.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed; candidates must demonstrate no travel or visa restrictions.
  • Ability to obtain a NATO secret security clearance.
  • Availability for off-hours support as part of a call-out rotation.
  • Flexibility to support projects across various time zones may require additional hours.

  • Support operational plans and manage critical responses as necessary.
  • May provide leadership to project teams and mentor junior staff.
  • This role does not include direct reports.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program and NATO secret level clearance.
