About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Satellite Control Systems Engineer to join our LEO SOC Systems team at Telesat. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for adapting the latest software technology to set up a high-assurance containerized satellite control system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deploy and Maintain Infrastructure: Deploy and maintain the infrastructure (on-prem cloud/containers) which hosts the operations systems.
  • Develop and Maintain Satellite Control Systems: Develop, monitor and maintain the Lightspeed satellite control systems to be used in Telesat's advanced LEO constellation.
  • Participate in System Requirements: Participate in satisfying the system requirements for all elements of the satellite control systems including real-time command and telemetry processing, flight dynamics system, space situational awareness, data storage and analytics, ground encryption, constellation management and operations automation.
  • Develop and Maintain Software: Develop and maintain software related to the operations systems. The LEO SOC Systems group produces an assortment of software to complement the control systems and assist with operations.
  • Assist Satellite Operations Teams: Assist other satellite operations teams in their efforts to utilize the control systems and related tasks.
  • Procurement Process: Participate in the procurement process of the satellite operations systems including acceptance testing, verification of requirements, and training.
  • Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Collaboration with the Lightspeed satellite engineering teams to ensure that satellite operations systems are sufficient to operate the Lightspeed constellation.
  • Develop Mission Operations Procedures: Develop mission operations procedures and processes for LEOP, Orbit Raising and In-Orbit validation and conduct appropriate training and rehearsals.
  • Automation of Operational Processes: Develop and implement robust automation of operational processes to reduce the operational burden and ensure highly reliable operations of the satellites in the constellation.
  • Maintenance of GEO Satellite Operations Systems: Monitor and maintain the GEO satellite operations systems in use for the current GEO fleet operated by Telesat.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Science or Mathematics.
  • Experience: Proven experience with operational system, with a minimum of 9 years in similar roles.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with modern operating systems, programming languages and frameworks, on-prem clusters and containerized systems, and cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills.
  • Language: Fluent in English, both written and oral.
  • Travel: Occasional international travel may be required; therefore, candidates will need to provide proof that they have no national/international travel or visa restrictions.
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a NATO secret security clearance.
  • Availability: Willingness to provide off hours support as part of a call-out rotation.
