We are currently seeking a Water Resource Technician to enhance our Water Resources Group in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This role involves offering field, technical, and project management assistance for various environmental management aspects, including hydrology, hydrogeology, and water quality initiatives.



Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Hatfield's Health and Safety Management Plan, legal requirements, and client safety protocols.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to gather data assessing project-related and climate change impacts on water resources and environmental values. This includes supporting diverse water resource monitoring programs under the guidance of experienced staff.
  • Compile, manage, and evaluate data related to water quality, usage, hydrometric, hydrogeologic, and climatic conditions.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated to meet operational standards.
  • Assist with ongoing data management and reporting activities.
  • Engage in research and analytical tasks, including data collection, compilation, analysis, and modeling.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical documentation.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and be comfortable operating 1/2 ton trucks.


Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in engineering or sciences, with experience in hydrology or hydrogeology, and qualifications suitable for work in Alberta. The ideal candidate will have 2 to 5 years of relevant water resource monitoring experience.
  • Familiarity with Alberta and Federal regulations regarding environmental monitoring and construction projects is advantageous.
  • Additional experience in construction environmental monitoring, soil and water quality sampling, and environmental effects monitoring is beneficial.
  • Fieldwork experience, particularly in remote locations, is required.
  • Experience in groundwater exploration, monitoring, and surface water sampling is preferred but not mandatory.

  • Proficiency with technology and a willingness to learn various environmental monitoring systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams with varying levels of experience while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to undertake extensive fieldwork in diverse weather conditions, including remote locations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic consulting environment and the willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following standard operating procedures for data collection.
  • A valid Canadian driver's license and the ability to meet third-party automobile insurance requirements.
