Job Summary

The Exercise Testing Technician plays a crucial role in the Diagnostic Services program at Hamilton Health Sciences, working alongside specially trained physicians, technicians, and technologists to provide a range of diagnostic testing services. This position requires a strong understanding of cardiopulmonary function and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic exercise testing procedures, explaining the process to patients to ensure full cooperation and maximum performance.
  • Take a brief patient history, perform resting ECG/BP, and examine for abnormalities.
  • Observe and assess patient tolerance to exercise, assist in determining the endpoint of exercise tolerance, and quickly recognize cardiopulmonary emergencies.
  • Operate computers, metabolic measurement systems, bicycle, treadmill, and ECG monitoring systems.
  • Assist in training students and demonstrate effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Requirements
  • Cardiovascular Technician diploma or equivalent with active registration and membership in good standing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cardiopulmonary function and ECG interpretation skills.
  • Minimum one year recent experience in Exercise Stress Testing lab within the last five years, including all aspects of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment and demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining and improving individual competence and contributing to the education and development of students.
