Exercise Testing Technician

The Exercise Testing Technician plays a crucial role in the Diagnostic Services program at Hamilton Health Sciences, working alongside specially trained physicians, technicians, and technologists to provide a range of diagnostic testing services. This position requires a strong understanding of cardiopulmonary function and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic exercise testing procedures, explaining the process to patients to ensure full cooperation and maximum performance.
- Take a brief patient history, perform resting ECG/BP, and examine for abnormalities.
- Observe and assess patient tolerance to exercise, assist in determining the endpoint of exercise tolerance.
- Recognize cardiopulmonary emergencies and act accordingly.
- Operate computers, metabolic measurement systems, bicycle, treadmill, and ECG monitoring systems.
- Assist in training students.
- Cardiovascular Technician diploma or equivalent with active registration and membership in good standing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cardiopulmonary function.
- ECG interpretation skills.
- Minimum one year recent experience in Exercise Stress Testing lab within the last five years.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Initiative and judgment appropriate for the position.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate behavior consistent with HHS Values Based Code of Conduct.
- Commitment to maintaining and improving individual competence and contributing to the education and development of students.
- Advanced arrhythmia interpretation skills.
- Current BLS certification.
