  • A degree in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work, or Humanities;
  • A passion for working with newcomer youth;
  • Proven experience in facilitating group activities, especially in areas such as leadership, philanthropy, and job readiness;
  • A proactive attitude and a strong work ethic;
  • Excellent teamwork abilities alongside the capacity to work autonomously with minimal supervision;
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills;
  • Administrative proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Access to reliable transportation (mileage will be reimbursed);
  • Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR must be recertified within the last year);
  • A clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references are required.
Role Overview at YMCA Calgary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Part-time, year-round engagement in a dynamic program (YMAP) designed to support and enrich the experiences of high school students;
  • Independently conduct after-school sessions four days a week for youth with varying levels of English proficiency;
  • Facilitate or assist with summer programming for youth during the summer months;
  • Tailor curriculum into daily lesson plans to address the needs of students;
  • Cover topics such as:
self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, navigating Calgary transit, resume crafting, global initiatives, and cultural sensitivity;

  • Collaborate within a team of six YMAP Coordinators;
  • Organize special events for youth;
  • Recruit participants through in-school presentations and individual interviews;
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance records, and program impact narratives;
  • Assist in program evaluation;
  • Provide drop-in support and referrals for participants as necessary;
  • Foster and maintain relationships with educational institutions and community organizations;
  • Serve as an ambassador for YMCA programs within the community;
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
