Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH). As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens, including blood and tissue samples, using phlebotomy and micro-sample techniques.
  • Perform and explain procedures for ECGs and special tests, such as glucose tolerance tests and sweat tests.
  • Work in a rotating schedule, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, to ensure adequate staffing and coverage.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely test results.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, and ensure compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Laboratory Assistant Training Program.
  • Certification with the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT), MLPAO, or Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Minimum two years of technical training or experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a hospital laboratory.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
