Position Overview

The Plant Manager is tasked with overseeing and directing the operational activities and performance at designated facilities. This role is pivotal in ensuring synergy across all departments, including Environment, Land, Manufacturing, and Safety, to enhance communication and uniformity. The primary goal is to maximize resource utilization and implement operational excellence to achieve optimal productivity at minimal production costs.

Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership:
  • Adhere to and enforce Health & Safety regulations and protocols.
  • Guarantee compliance with Lafarge's safety standards across all personnel and locations.
  • Engage in the management and execution of safety initiatives to ensure effective program functionality.
Human Resource Management:
  • Oversee and manage agreements with hourly site employees.
  • Responsible for the development, motivation, and training of administrative production staff to enhance customer service, operational efficiency, and skill advancement.
Production Oversight:
  • Design, implement, and monitor maintenance, production, and shipping processes to meet established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Facilitate daily communication with Local Distribution and Quality teams to enhance group efficiencies and manage inventory and production metrics.
  • Review Local and National Contracts to ensure compliance with expectations and cost-saving opportunities.
Financial Oversight:
  • Plan, monitor, and assess financial performance using local/regional tools, develop and manage annual repair budgets, and conduct financial analyses to identify cost-saving prospects.
  • Project profitability and production to optimize yield; assist supply chain management in balancing inventory and sales requirements to minimize working capital effects.
Customer Engagement:
  • Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations to support Distribution in maintaining appropriate inventory levels to satisfy local demand.
  • Organize and schedule production in collaboration with the local Quality team to enhance product offerings.
Land and Environmental Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all Lafarge and regulatory standards at the site.
  • Support Land in developing and executing a sustainable mining strategy that includes detailed stripping, production phasing, and rehabilitation forecasts to optimize reserves while managing community impact.
Project Management:
  • Assist the Operations Manager and management team in executing assigned projects.
  • Participate in defining and implementing capital investment initiatives, including planning, budget management, contract negotiation, and overseeing construction, startup, and commissioning activities.
Collaboration with Other Functions:
  • Report to the Operations Manager.
  • Supervise superintendents and lead hands.
  • Oversee Weigh Masters and Shipping personnel.
  • Collaborate closely with other Area Performance teams, Quality Staff, Sales Staff, Area Safety Representatives, Land, Environment, and Finance teams.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:
  • College Degree in Engineering or Business, or equivalent education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory or managerial experience in a comparable environment.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with general accounting principles is advantageous.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning capabilities.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the aggregate industry is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, research, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective time management skills, self-motivated, and capable of managing a diverse range of tasks.
