About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Harm Reduction Support Worker to join our team at AVI Health and Community Services. As a Harm Reduction Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing low-barrier harm reduction supports to individuals accessing our programming and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide harm reduction supply distribution and recovery services
  • Use brief assessment, active listening, and crisis response skills to help meet immediate, basic needs and make appropriate referrals to other health and support services
  • Deliver education, resources, and support regarding safer substance use, safer sex, HIV, hepatitis C, and STIs
  • Assess for overdose symptoms and respond with rescue breaths and Naloxone as needed
  • Provide overdose prevention education and facilitate in-office Naloxone distribution
  • Support Peer groups and provide brief support, basic direction, and referrals to other health and support services
  • Maintain the safety of program spaces and work collaboratively with partner agencies to provide a continuum of services
Requirements
  • Diploma in health or social services or equivalent combination of education and work/lived experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience working within harm reduction settings
  • First Aid training and experience responding to critical incidents, including overdose
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support services systems
What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly rate of $31.56/hour to start with stepped increases based on seniority with AVI
  • Casual position with potential shifts falling between Monday to Friday between 08:45am and 4:00pm
  • Location: AVI Campbell River Office and Courtenay offices and within the community as needed
  • Union environment under the Collective Agreement: HEABC & Health Services & Support Community Subsector Association
