About the Role

Syntax is a leading Managed Cloud Provider for Mission Critical Enterprise Applications, offering comprehensive technology solutions to businesses of all sizes since 1972. As a Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for building, releasing, and managing cloud deployments, ensuring application performance, uptime, and scale, and maintaining high standards of quality and design.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions on AWS platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
  2. Troubleshoot incidents to identify root cause, participate in blameless postmortems, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
  3. Regularly review existing systems and make recommendations for improvements, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of cloud-based solutions.
  5. Develop and maintain technical documentation for cloud infrastructure, including implementations and procedures.
  6. Provide on-call rotation for production support, ensuring timely resolution of issues and minimizing downtime.
Requirements
  1. Minimum five (5) years of directly related work experience with responsibility for multiclient or enterprise environments.
  2. Experience implementing and supporting cloud solutions on AWS platforms, with a solid background in Linux System Administration and SysOps.
  3. Demonstrated familiarity with firewall, networking, and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, and distributed networks.
  4. Experience installing and configuring application servers (e.g., Tomcat).
  5. Experience with information systems security principles, practices, and technologies, and using security and monitoring solutions.
  6. Proficiency in script development (e.g., Bash, Python).
  7. Successful record of managing multiple projects with demonstrated ability to work independently in rapidly-changing environments.
Preferred Skills
  1. Experience with AWS, including the five pillars of the AWS well-architected framework.
  2. Hands-on troubleshooting skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and resolution.
  3. Flexibility to meet changing priorities and technologies through continuous learning and improvement.
  4. Strong time management skills and the ability to establish reasonable deadlines for resolution.
  5. Mindset to automate tasks and eliminate toil work, with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
