The City of Laval's Urbanism Department is seeking a dedicated Heritage Planning Specialist to contribute to our ambitious heritage preservation initiatives.

Laval, the third largest city in Quebec, has recently adopted a comprehensive heritage action plan focused on protecting and promoting its rich cultural heritage. This plan, developed through extensive citizen consultations and collaboration with cultural organizations, outlines four key areas of focus: expanding knowledge of Laval's heritage, creating innovative tools and programs, implementing sustainable heritage management practices, and fostering citizen ownership and recognition of heritage.

As a Heritage Planning Specialist, you will play a vital role in the successful implementation of this plan.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and propose territory planning projects focused on heritage protection and promotion, ensuring their effective implementation.
  • Conduct research and analysis to ensure projects involving heritage buildings align with municipal objectives.
  • Develop specific studies, analyses, procedures, and methods related to heritage protection and promotion, guaranteeing compliance upon approval.
  • Provide recommendations on developing, modifying, or enforcing municipal and provincial heritage regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for municipal committees governed by provincial laws and municipal regulations.
  • Engage with citizens, organizations, and stakeholders to inform them about heritage-related matters.
  • Collaborate with employees from other City divisions and external organizations to develop projects, address heritage issues, and find appropriate solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, urban studies, or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience in heritage, including analyzing projects involving heritage buildings and developing heritage protection and promotion tools.
  • Municipal experience is highly desirable.
  • Membership in the Urban Planners Order or Architects Order is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, with exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, a team player, and the ability to interact effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
