The Opportunity
As a vital member of the Canada Impact team, you will report directly to the Senior Manager of External Communications. Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement engaging communication strategies that effectively enhance and safeguard the reputation of the Brand across Canada. Collaborating closely with the McDonald's Canada business, your goal is to uphold and elevate the standing of one of the nation’s most recognized brands, while working alongside specialists in strategic communications, public affairs, and sustainability from both regional and global offices.

Your role is essential in executing both proactive and reactive communication strategies across various platforms to foster trust among Canadians, while simultaneously supporting business growth.

Principal Accountabilities
In alignment with McDonald's policies and procedures, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Develop and execute comprehensive external communication strategies that promote positive awareness of the McDonald's brand. Provide strategic advice to leadership and key departments on external announcements, engagements, and message development. Oversee the management of McDonald's PR Agency to ensure effective plan execution. Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and key internal stakeholders. Collaborate closely with the broader Canada Impact Team and the North American Impact Team to ensure cohesive external communication efforts. Manage media inquiries for McDonald's Canada, serving as a spokesperson when necessary. Implement communication processes to assess campaign effectiveness and for year-end reporting. Strategize and manage media response plans for both restaurant-level and national brand media issues. Assist the Canada Impact Team and McDonald's Canada business with issues and crisis management as needed.

Qualifications:

Passionate about the McDonald's brand. Bachelor's degree or postgraduate certificate in a communications-related field. At least 6 years of experience in communications, particularly in external communications. Comprehensive understanding of the dynamic media landscape, including the impact of social media and digital platforms. Strong organizational and project management skills; adept at prioritizing and managing competing deadlines. Ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a solid grasp of public relations principles and practices. Skilled in crafting communication materials into relevant, timely, and engaging narratives. Proven experience in media relations and managing agency partners. Proficient in navigating media issues and crises for brands. Familiarity with modern methods for measuring communication impact. A collaborative team player with a positive attitude and a desire to work as part of an integrated team while also being self-sufficient. Willingness to travel within Canada as required (approximately < 15%). Proficiency in reading and writing in French is a plus.
