We are expanding our Surveying Division and have an opening in our Antigonish or Halifax office for a Professional Land Surveyor/Engineer to join our team.

Role Description:

As a Professional Land Surveyor, you will support the Surveying Division by performing legal boundary retracement and subdivision surveys across the province. You will consult on land use bylaw and subdivisions regulations, assist our engineering design teams with survey support, lead construction survey tasks, and support for building, road layouts, and certify that structures are built according to design.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Strum's health and safety program and ensure safety procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Evaluate and resolve boundary solutions.
  • Prepare detailed survey approach and calculations on assigned projects.
  • Identify and undertake required surveying research.
  • Translate/ process field data.
  • Complete detailed drawings.
  • Coordinate and direct AutoCAD drawing preparation.
  • Review milestone and final drawings.
  • Attend meetings with contractors, regulatory agencies, and clients.
  • Manage projects, administer contracts, and control budgets.
  • Present concepts to clients and manage small to medium-size projects.
  • Develop increasing competency with design programs, Word, and Excel, through continuing education, training, information sharing with other employees, and self-directed study.
  • Support existing teams while demonstrating ability to work independently and as part of a larger close-knit team.

Attributes and Skills:

  • A degree, technical diploma, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Strong academic record is an asset.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Nova Scotia Land Surveyor.
  • 2-years minimum experience in legal land surveying.
  • Knowledgeable in the statutes, regulations, and practices of the Nova Scotia Land Surveyors Act, Municipal Government Act, Land Titles Act, Public Lands Act, and Surveys Act.
  • Familiar with, and proficiency in, the operation of survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, and various Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.
  • Demonstrate strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable meeting with clients and exploring new business opportunities.

  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License is required.
