Pediatric Emergency Nursing Opportunity
BC Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team. As a pediatric emergency nurse, you will provide high-quality care to infants, children, and youth with a range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform primary and secondary nursing assessments, nursing diagnoses, planning, implementation, and evaluation of real and potential health problems in patients.
- Collaborate with physicians and allied health professionals as required, administer prescribed treatments and medications according to policy.
- Provide nursing care to unique patient populations in crisis, including physical and sexual abuse, psychiatric problems, toxic ingestions, drug and alcohol intoxication.
- Observe, monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
- Assess the patient's needs in collaboration with the emergency team during the intake procedure to determine patient disposition.
Requirements:
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Emergency Department RNs require 1+ year of recent, related clinical experience in pediatrics or an Emergency Department setting; Emergency Nursing Pediatric course (ENPC)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)/Trauma Nursing Core Course preferred (TNCC).
- Mental Health – Emergency Department RN/RPNs require 3 years' recent related experience working with children, adolescents, and families on an inpatient child/adolescent mental health unit including 1 year's recent related experience in a crisis or emergency psychiatry setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; current CPR and CPI training.
