Overview:
The Intermediate Process Engineer at Equinox Engineering Ltd will play a crucial role in the design of process systems for diverse multi-disciplinary projects. This position requires the ability to manage several projects concurrently while adhering to strict deadlines. The Process Engineer will be tasked with transforming practical concepts into effective designs through to the commissioning phase.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Lead Process Engineer in addressing and communicating various challenges impacting the design, safety, and regulatory compliance of process engineering tasks.
- Conduct Feasibility Studies, Conceptual Designs, Process Studies, and Detailed Engineering Designs.
- Perform process simulations and modeling for oil processing facilities, with a requirement for PipeSIM expertise.
- Create essential design documentation, including Material Balances, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Shutdown Keys.
- Execute line sizing, Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) sizing, and prepare equipment process data sheets.
- Preference will be given to candidates who can take on Lead Engineer responsibilities.
- Engage in process troubleshooting, optimization, variability reduction through Statistical Process Control (SPC), and overall process enhancement.
- Provide training on processes, WHMIS, and assist with new process start-ups.
- Monitor and reduce chemical usage and water consumption, conduct environmental impact assessments, and mentor on departmental environmental initiatives.
Essential Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities are essential.
- Experience with sweet and sour gas projects in an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of heavy oil or sweet and sour gas facility design and construction, particularly in relation to field facilities and processing plants.
- Familiarity with technical specifications, codes, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer designation (P. Eng).
- A degree in Chemical Engineering with relevant EPCM experience is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the oil and gas sector within an EPCM framework.
- Proven experience in process design, including mass balances, flow diagrams, and support services.
- Experience in systems design, including piping and instrumentation diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, and hazard and operability reviews.
- Proficiency in HYSYS, PipeSIM, and related simulation software is essential.
