THE ROLE
This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of a highly motivated team responsible for evaluating the operational capabilities and infrastructure of UPP's investment partners.

Reporting to the Manager of Operational Due Diligence, the Senior Operational Risk Analyst will collaborate closely with both Public and Private Markets Investment teams, Responsible Investing (RI), Compliance, and other business partners to conduct initial and ongoing assessments of non-investment operational risks associated with external managers.

The Senior Analyst will contribute to the team by engaging in operational due diligence reviews, preparing assessments for the Manager of ODD, and sharing insights and recommendations with internal stakeholders.

This dynamic position will provide opportunities to interact with senior leaders regarding operational risks and controls, investment strategies, compliance programs, and the quality of personnel, offering exposure and insights into various asset classes, fund strategies, and operational models.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Analyze key offering documents, DDQs, audited financial statements, and investment manager policies, identifying areas for further inquiry and discussion with fund managers.

• Schedule ongoing operational due diligence (ODD) review meetings with existing fund managers, including hedge, public market, and private fund managers.

• Engage with fund managers on ODD-related topics, preparing detailed agendas and discussion points for operational due diligence meetings.

• Attend operational due diligence review meetings, contributing operational questions and documenting discussions clearly and concisely.

• Collaborate with operational due diligence consultants for new investment reviews and analyze manager assessment reports to form an operational risk rating opinion.

• Identify and evaluate deficiencies or areas of concern based on discussions with fund managers, documenting these in the risk rating report.

• Provide appropriate recommendations for fund managers as part of the risk rating report, subject to approval by the Manager of ODD, and present findings to internal teams and executive leaders.

• Stay informed on industry standards and facilitate knowledge transfer within the ODD group and the organization.

• Conduct research through ongoing media monitoring of fund managers, assessing potential reputational and investment risks to UPP.

• Establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with internal stakeholders and external fund managers.

• Be prepared to travel for onsite ODD visits, subject to current health guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in due diligence or internal controls reviews within the finance sector.

• Familiarity with the due diligence review processes for newly proposed funds and ongoing fund evaluations.

• Knowledgeable in areas such as fund operations, fund administration, prime brokerage, audit, legal compliance, technology, and information security.

• Understanding of various financial instruments and alternative investment strategies, including hedge funds, private equity, credit, real estate, and infrastructure, as well as traditional equity and fixed income strategies.

• An undergraduate or advanced degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.

• Professional designations such as CPA, CFA, or CAIA are preferred but not required.
