About the Role:

The Co-operators is seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to join our Financial Accounting Services team. As an Accounting Specialist, you will play a key role in maintaining the flow of financial information, ensuring the integrity of financial data, and reconciling accounting created by system feeds or by manual processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the day-to-day accounting related system support and escalate any complex issues to the Financial Systems Analysts.
  2. Create and maintain reports to enhance reconciliations and external and regulatory financial reporting.
  3. Assist in financial requirements planning, gathering, analysis, testing, documentation, and communication.
  4. Responsible for various account reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items in general ledger accounts.
  5. Accurately prepare journal entries to record accounting transactions and complete a wide range of accounting entries, including more complex entries.
  6. Investigate and resolve system and/or work process problems that arise and communicate with the business area any corrections required impacting the GL.
  7. Act as the subject matter expert for Oracle upgrades, FAS accounting related projects, and provide updates and training to the FAS team.
  8. Backup and cross-train on various departmental activities and the Financial Systems Analysts duties.

Requirements:

  • Minimum five years related business/systems experience.
  • Completion of University Degree in Business Administration/Accounting.
  • Enrolled in CPA program.
  • Advanced computer skills with an emphasis on MS Access and Excel.
