Position Overview
The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional healthcare as a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (NP), adhering to the established scope of practice defined by the provincial Nurses Act and the NANB Entry-Level Competencies for Nurse Practitioners.

Required Qualifications

  1. Current registration as a nurse practitioner with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.
  2. At least one year of clinical experience as a NP within the past five years.
  3. Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively; capable of leading initiatives for improvement.
  4. Strong understanding of privacy, confidentiality, evidence-based practices, and mentoring.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  6. Consistent attendance and reliability in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Stay informed about the latest trends and developments in healthcare and the NP profession.
  2. Engage in process improvements related to NP practice to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of health services.
  3. Collaborate with team members to develop, monitor, and assess evidence-based protocols and standards of care for geriatric populations.
  4. Provide consultation to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and personal care attendants regarding diagnosis, testing, and medication prescriptions as per NANB guidelines.

Health Assessment and Diagnosis

  1. Conduct comprehensive health assessments.
  2. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests in line with NANB Standards for PHC NPs.
  3. Establish accurate diagnoses.
  4. Collaborate with patients, families, and team members to initiate appropriate treatment plans.

Management of Health Conditions

  1. Exhibit knowledge of current best practices in patient care delivery.
  2. Prescribe, modify, and renew medications in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.
  3. Monitor and adjust therapies and treatments as necessary.
  4. Facilitate timely referrals or collaborations with other healthcare professionals as needed.

Health Promotion and Injury Prevention

  1. Demonstrate understanding of health promotion services and implement prevention strategies.
  2. Incorporate risk reduction and disease prevention measures into practice.
  3. Participate in the development and execution of community health interventions as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Professional Accountability

  1. Maintain competencies as outlined in the NANB Standards of Practice for Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioners.
  2. Actively contribute as a team member to ensure comprehensive care for all residents.
  3. Promote excellence in advanced nursing practice.
  4. Utilize nursing research to support clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice.
  5. Establish a network of referral sources to facilitate resident care.
  6. Serve as a resource, mentor, and preceptor for Nurse Practitioner students and other healthcare professionals.
  7. Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and engage in educational activities.
  8. Collaborate with team members in the development and evaluation of evidence-based care protocols.
  9. Participate in various professional meetings and committees as required.
