Position Overview
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional healthcare as a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) within the defined scope of practice according to provincial regulations and standards.
Essential Qualifications
- Current registration as a nurse practitioner with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.
- At least 1 year of clinical experience as a NP within the past 5 years.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively; capable of leading initiatives and driving improvements.
- Strong understanding of privacy, confidentiality, evidence-based nursing practices, and mentoring environments.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated reliability in attendance and punctuality.
Key Responsibilities
- Stays informed about current trends and developments in provincial and national healthcare and the NP profession.
- Engages in process improvements related to NP practice to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of health services.
- Contributes to the creation, monitoring, and assessment of evidence-based protocols and standards of care for geriatric populations, collaborating with team members.
- Serves as a consultant to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and personal care attendants regarding diagnosis, test orders, and medication prescriptions as per regulatory guidelines.
Health Assessment and Diagnosis
- Conducts thorough health assessments.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests in compliance with the NANB Standards for Primary Health Care NPs.
- Establishes accurate diagnoses.
- Develops appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and team members.
Management of Health Conditions
- Exhibits knowledge of best practices for patient care delivery.
- Prescribes, modifies, and renews medications in accordance with relevant legislation and organizational policies.
- Monitors and adjusts therapies and treatments as necessary.
- Facilitates timely referrals or collaborations with other healthcare professionals as needed.
Health Promotion and Illness Prevention
- Demonstrates expertise in health promotion services and implements prevention strategies.
- Incorporates risk reduction and disease prevention measures into practice.
- Participates in the development and execution of community health initiatives as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Professional Accountability
- Maintains competencies as per NANB Standards of Practice for Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioners.
- Actively collaborates with team members to provide comprehensive care to all residents.
- Promotes excellence in advanced nursing practice.
- Utilizes nursing research to inform clinical knowledge and evidence-based practices.
- Builds a network of referral sources to ensure effective patient care.
- Acts as a resource and mentor for Nurse Practitioner students and other healthcare professionals.
- Takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and engages in educational activities.
- Contributes to the development and evaluation of evidence-based care protocols in collaboration with team members.
