About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various functions related to specimen procurement, receipt, and processing, including data entry, media preparation, and sterilization.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with various stakeholders and clients.
  • Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
  • Adhere to all applicable NSH policies and procedures, including safety and infection prevention and control protocols.
About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in medical laboratory science. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
  • Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions.
  • Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, with Meditech experience preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation, as travel may be required.
Hours and Compensation

This is a long assignment, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $23.19 - $26.27. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
