About the Opportunity

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant with Nova Scotia Health, you will play a vital role in supporting the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team. Under the direction of management, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to perform various functions related to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. This includes specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, and clerical duties. You will also be responsible for loading specimens on an analyzer and performing troubleshooting activities. Additionally, you may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, and interact with various stakeholders and clients. To be successful in this role, you must adhere to all applicable NSH/PLM policies and procedures, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

About You

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent. You must have successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and have current registration with CSMLS. Strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects are essential. You must also be able to perform procedures with a high degree of accuracy, accurately number/label specimens, and file slides/requisitions. Basic computer skills, particularly with Meditech, are preferred. Access to reliable transportation is also required. Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $23.19 - $26.27. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
