About the Opportunity

The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) plays a vital role in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) department, working collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure the efficient processing of specimens and accurate data entry. Key responsibilities include specimen procurement, receipt, and processing, as well as data entry, media preparation, and sterilization. Additionally, the MLA may be required to perform supply management, troubleshooting, and customer service activities. Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential for this role.

About You

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. The ideal candidate will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic understanding of medical terminology and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects are also essential. The ability to accurately number and label specimens, file slides and requisitions, and adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures is also required. Basic computer skills, with Meditech experience preferred, and access to reliable transportation for travel are also necessary. Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent, part-time position with 37.5 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $23.19 - $26.27, and successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
