Salary:

$56.75/hour, based on experience and qualifications in accordance with the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary staff receive an additional 2% on all regular earnings in lieu of benefits, along with 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included in each paycheck.

Position Overview:

Northern Lights College is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Enhanced Carpentry Foundations - Residential Construction Instructor.

This program focuses on the essential foundational skills and knowledge required for Level 1 and 2 apprenticeship outcomes as outlined in the STBC Program. Instructors may alternate between delivering apprenticeship training and teaching foundational courses on an annual basis. The Enhanced Carpentry program is designed to facilitate the construction of a comprehensive building project each year, engaging in activities that align with the learning objectives for Level 1 and 2 students. This project may involve residential construction or collaborative initiatives such as restoring a historical structure or building a barn in partnership with community organizations.

Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Inter Provincial Red Seal Carpentry certification and apprenticeship credentials
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on carpentry experience
  • Current knowledge of building and energy regulations
  • Proven ability to interact with adult learners and high school students in a professional and supportive manner
  • Essential to be an effective and positive team player

Preferred:

  • Valid Level 1 First Aid certification throughout the contract duration.
  • Experience in teaching adult learners, including apprentices and dual credit students
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma Program (PIDP) or a comparable qualification
