About the Applied Science Team
We are in search of applied scientists who possess extensive knowledge in machine learning, optimization, data product development, and statistics.

Role Overview
At Thumbtack, the Applied Science team tackles a diverse array of challenges that encompass machine learning, statistical analysis, and computational science:

  • Through comprehensive data exploration and experimental frameworks, our team aims to uncover patterns and behaviors within various markets.
  • We seek an individual with profound expertise in leveraging scientific methodologies to enhance marketplace monetization.

Key Responsibilities
Our mission is to sustain and expand a marketplace that connects homeowners with service professionals, ensuring that the skills of these professionals align with the project requirements of homeowners, while also harmonizing pricing and scheduling to facilitate successful project completions.

  • Lead and execute applied science projects to fruition, emphasizing the business implications of these initiatives.
  • Design and implement experiments, gather and interpret data to evaluate our products and marketing strategies.
  • Analyze diverse data types: both structured and unstructured, as well as observational and experimental.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and economists to apply robust statistical methodologies.
  • Strike a balance between rapid execution and scientific integrity when crafting solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to fellow applied scientists.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of machine learning methodologies.
  • Experience in developing algorithms tailored to complex human environments with adaptive behavioral responses.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and debugging code in programming languages such as Python.
  • Ability to dissect intricate problems methodically and comprehend the necessary trade-offs to deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with cross-functional partners across varying technical backgrounds.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
