Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Applied Science, you will:

  • Lead a team of Applied Scientists in the development and execution of AI-driven strategies aimed at enhancing Thumbtack's growth.
  • Collaborate across departments to create and implement cutting-edge solutions that improve user experience.
  • Design and deploy sophisticated machine learning models and AI algorithms to refine user acquisition, engagement, and retention for both service professionals and customers.
  • Investigate and apply generative AI technologies to uncover new opportunities for growth and enhance user interactions.
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends in applied science and AI, particularly those that influence marketplace dynamics and user behavior.
  • Deliver insights and strategic recommendations to executive leadership to guide decision-making.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Doctorate or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 8+ years of experience in applied science roles, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
