Position Overview
In the role of Director of Applied Science for Growth Strategies, you will take charge of our AI-centric growth initiatives. You will lead a dedicated team of Applied Scientists, collaborating across departments to devise and execute groundbreaking solutions that foster Thumbtack's expansion and improve user interactions. This position presents a unique chance to develop solutions that serve both service providers and customers, optimizing the marketplace for all stakeholders. You will also be instrumental in leveraging generative AI technologies to craft innovative growth solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and mentor a team of Applied Scientists, nurturing a culture of creativity and ongoing development.
- Design and implement sophisticated machine learning models and AI algorithms to enhance user acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies for both service providers and clients.
- Work closely with product, marketing, and operations teams to pinpoint high-impact growth opportunities.
- Oversee AI-driven experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of growth strategies and facilitate data-informed decision-making.
- Lead the creation of predictive models for user behavior, market dynamics, and business performance.
- Innovate in areas such as personalized recommendations, matching algorithms, and automated interactions to elevate Thumbtack's services for both professionals and clients.
- Investigate and apply generative AI solutions to uncover new growth pathways and enhance user experiences.
- Establish best practices for AI and ensure ethical development across growth strategies.
- Remain updated on advancements in applied science and AI relevant to marketplace dynamics and user behavior forecasting.
- Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership to guide strategic planning.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in applied science roles, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.
- Strong expertise in machine learning, AI, and causal inference within marketing and growth contexts.
- Demonstrated success in applying AI to drive business growth in a technology-driven environment.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala.
- Understanding of generative AI applications and their potential to stimulate growth.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex AI concepts to non-technical audiences.
