Job Summary

Wood is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Specialist/Engineer to join our team in Sarnia, ON. As a key member of our Oil, Gas and New Energies Canada team, you will play a critical role in delivering complex projects and supporting the growth of our business.

Our team has a strong presence in the energy transition, supporting the rapidly growing decarbonization and renewables industry in Canada and globally. We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong understanding of ASME, TSSA, and CSA codes and directives, as well as experience in the use of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI/Intools).

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards
  • Participate in design reviews and HAZOPs as needed
  • Conduct site visits as required
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines and suppliers
  • Project Execution may include:
    • Development of datasheets and specification of field instrumentation, control valves, and PSVs
    • Preparation and checking of installation details
    • Preparation and review of instrument lists (I/O, instrument index, load lists, etc)
    • Development of Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
    • Selection and procurement of controls hardware (DCS/PLC/SIS)
    • Instrument loop diagrams and control cabinet design and wiring
    • Squad checks of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines
    • Input to P&ID development
    • Design, development, and technical content of the I&C portion of project work
    • Frequent contact with vendors
    • Preparation of Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, and award recommendations for various equipment within instrumentation and controls
Requirements
  • Instrumentation Technologist/Engineer from an accredited University or College
  • Minimum of 6+ years of industry experience
  • Good understanding and familiarity of ASME, TSSA, and CSA codes and directives
  • Industry experience: Refining, Petrochemical, Gas Processing, and/or Midstream facilities
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in the use of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI/Intools) is an asset
  • Registration through PEO as a P.ENG or Limited License is an asset
