About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Instrumentation and Controls to join our team at Kent. As a key member of our E&I Discipline, you will be responsible for leading various projects associated with the Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design teams and manage assigned work effectively, prioritizing, executing, and managing schedules and budgets.
  • Establish scope of work, effort hour estimates, and deliverable lists.
  • Develop instrument indexes, I/O lists, I/O assignments, equipment lists, and alarm rationalization lists.
  • Review instrument loop diagrams, wiring drawings, instrument location plans, installation details, and Fire and Gas location plans.
  • Perform instrument selection, specification, and inline device sizing calculations.
  • Develop instrument specifications and datasheets.
  • Develop BOMs/MTOs and cable schedules.
  • Design cabinets and JBs, control room layouts, and P&IDs.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, LOPA, and SIL.
  • Review project documents for scope, presentation, and technical accuracy.
  • Provide procurement support by preparing MRQ/MRP packages and performing TBE for field instruments, analyzers, and system cabinets.
  • Develop control narratives and cause-and-effect diagrams.
  • Provide home office engineering support to on-site personnel.
  • Review vendor designs for compliance with technical specifications and applicable standards.
  • Develop engineering work packages or construction work packages.
  • Supervise and mentor team members.
  • Attend project team meetings, client meetings, and vendor review meetings.
  • Establish a good working relationship with clients, demonstrating strong client focus and professionalism.
  • Perform field visits to validate existing drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
  • Utilize the workshare office or HVEC to complete electrical deliverables.
  • Review designs for constructability and accordance with project requirements.
  • Review and stamp I&C drawings and documents.
  • Program PLC, DCS, and SIS systems.
Requirements
  • Degree in Instrumentation and Control Systems from an accredited university or college.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
  • 10 years of instrumentation and control design experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Experience using Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Experience with analyzers is an asset.
  • Experience in the EPC industry, leading local and workshare teams, is an asset.
