Job Summary

VIA Rail Canada Inc., a leading passenger transportation company in Canada, is currently seeking a qualified Locomotive Engineer to fill a position in a dynamic team.

The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew, enabling the company to meet its scheduled operations and provide excellent customer service.

This critical position requires working varying schedules, being away from home for extended periods of time, and dealing with stressful factors while adhering to the Railway Safety Act of Canada, the Canadian Railway Operating Rules, and VIA Rail's special instructions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safe operation of locomotives and railcars
  • Coordinating with dispatchers and other railway personnel to ensure timely and efficient transportation
  • Conducting regular inspections of locomotives and railcars to ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Developing and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination

Requirements

  • Qualified Locomotive Engineer with a strong understanding of railway operations and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitudes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
