Job Title: Locomotive Engineer

VIA Rail Canada Inc. is seeking a qualified Locomotive Engineer to join our team in Thompson, Manitoba.

Job Summary:

The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew, ensuring timely arrival and departure of trains while adhering to safety protocols and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate locomotives in accordance with Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and VIA Rail's safety policies
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols
  • Collaborate with train crew to ensure smooth and efficient train operations
  • Monitor and report any safety concerns or incidents
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements:
  • Qualified Locomotive Engineer with Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying schedules and extended periods away from home
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitudes
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations
