Position Summary

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

The Royal Bank of Canada is on the lookout for a skilled and enthusiastic Senior Performance Engineering Lead to join our Quality Engineering team within the Wealth Management sector. This team is dedicated to delivering solutions that support performance engineering initiatives across the enterprise. The successful candidate will take on the role of Performance Engineering Lead, focusing on the provision of Performance Testing solutions for our Wealth Management applications in both Canada and the United States.

  • Offer expert knowledge and innovative solutions regarding performance testing methodologies and best practices in chaos engineering.
  • Oversee and coordinate Performance Test project activities from initiation to completion, ensuring comprehensive management of the systems development lifecycle across multiple projects, including estimation, strategy formulation, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assess performance testing requirements for new projects through artifact reviews and collaboration with project teams.
  • Introduce performance testing practices in areas that currently lack them by closely collaborating with application teams.
  • Conduct analysis of test outcomes and prepare detailed evaluation reports that validate system performance, including metrics on capacity and memory usage.
  • Engage in the evaluation of new performance testing tools to determine their suitability for our environment and develop automation scripts for test data creation.

WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

  • Act as a subject matter expert in Performance Testing, serving as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain Performance Test scripts for newly developed applications.
  • Collaborate with development teams to grasp architectural and solution requirements.
  • Analyze business requirements and use cases, translating them into performance test parameters.
  • Enhance formal Performance Test processes, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
  • Spearhead the development of next-generation testing processes, including Performance Testing, Continuous Integration, release methodologies, and test infrastructure improvements.
  • Manage timelines and quality by supervising Performance Test deliverables, identifying necessary changes, and adjusting plans accordingly.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to foresee and manage changes to Performance Testing.
  • Provide performance metrics to project leadership and support the lifecycle of change requests.
  • Implement industry-standard best practices to boost overall productivity and enhance processes.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED?

Essential Skills

  • A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in Performance Testing and Engineering, with a strong command of tools such as Microfocus Loadrunner and JMeter/Neoload.
  • Proficient in developing complex performance testing scripts using LoadRunner, with experience in executing various scenarios including Load, Stress, Failover, and Endurance testing.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring tools like Dynatrace or Appmon.
  • Expertise in integrating Performance Testing suites within CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Non-Functional Requirements (NFR), workload modeling, and performance scenario design, along with key performance indicators (KPIs) for performance measurement.
  • Solid grasp of software architecture layers and containerized applications, including orchestration tools like OpenShift or Kubernetes.
  • Fundamental database knowledge, including SQL queries and stored procedures, with the ability to construct queries based on project needs.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in performance testing of Kafka messages using LoadRunner or JMeter.
  • Understanding of ETL processes and batch performance testing.
  • Familiarity with Java programming and knowledge of Python, PowerShell, or Shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of test data management, data masking, and service virtualization.
  • Development experience is considered an asset.
