About the Opportunity

Wind River Systems is seeking an experienced software test manager to lead a cloud-based platform test team for its Cloud Platform product. Based in Kanata, the successful candidate will join a highly skilled test team delivering a cloud-native platform for containerized applications, virtual machines, and bare metal nodes.

The ideal candidate will be a highly adaptable team player who can quickly ramp up on new technologies and accomplish goals in a fast-paced agile environment. Familiarity with cloud storage solutions and an understanding of networking and security are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of test engineers contributing to ongoing releases of Wind River Cloud Platform Software.
  • Define the scope of testing for each release and estimate and manage the test effort.
  • Develop and apply test methodologies, test measurements, and metrics for the product and test team.
  • Lead automation test activities in an open-source project.
  • Support and encourage solid engineering processes.
  • Coordinate work with development and program managers to ensure delivery of projects and products.
  • Support unit and feature testing within product development teams.
  • Develop and implement processes for the direct team and department.
  • Contribute to budget allocation and monitoring.

Qualifications

  • 7-9+ years of relevant software test or development experience, with experience in Cloud technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, and/or StarlingX operating system an asset.
  • 5+ years of people/project management experience in an engineering environment.
  • Engineering management skills, including planning and managing test activities, building and motivating a test team, and diagnosing and solving typical issues in test.
  • Personal skills, including time planning and organization, nimbleness, verbal and written communications, and enthusiastic leadership.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects and leading test activities in the open.
  • Ability to be an effective member of a team of managers, including a drive to accomplish collective goals, the ability to fairly and effectively negotiate, and an attitude that puts the good of the team ahead of individual needs when required.
  • Experience in people management, including career planning, performance assessments, performance improvement, setting and evaluating goals, compensation, and general care of development engineers.
  • Relevant technical BS, Engineering, or computer science degree.
  • Business/management degree or coursework desirable.
