Licensed Practical Nurse - MRHH - A2 West Complex Continuing Care
Temporary Full-Time Position
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will employ a patient- and family-centered approach to deliver comprehensive, high-quality, and safe care to patients within the scope of practice defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, utilizing evidence-based nursing methodologies and adhering to the standards established by Mackenzie Health. You will work both independently and collaboratively as a member of the interprofessional care team, contributing to the creation of an exceptional health experience for patients and their families. This involves demonstrating professionalism consistently, upholding our core values of excellence, leadership, and empathy, and embodying our Commitment to Caring.
Responsibilities for Ensuring Quality Care
• Effectively managing a diverse workload in a dynamic environment.
• Addressing and resolving challenges in a constructive and respectful manner.
• Exercising sound professional judgment and adhering to best practice guidelines.
• Promoting a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all by complying with patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
• Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited nursing program is preferred.
• Current Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario is mandatory.
• If graduated prior to 1995, a medication administration certificate from an accredited community college is required.
• Recent completion of a physical assessment course is preferred.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is necessary.
Additional Skills and Attributes
• Experience with electronic medical records is an asset.
• Familiarity with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario is beneficial.
• Excellent interpersonal, listening, and verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively engage with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Proven strong decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and adapt to new or unforeseen circumstances.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications
• Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO) is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year of recent nursing experience as a Registered Practical Nurse in an acute care environment within the last 3 years is preferred.
• Experience working with elderly patients.
• Experience in providing care for palliative and complex continuing care patients.
• Ability to communicate in a second language is an advantage.
