Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to become a vital part of our expanding Small Business Division. This role involves mentorship and the management of comprehensive accounting processes for various clients, including personal income tax preparation and other business-related tasks as assigned by the management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and oversee financial transactions for client businesses, including purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments.
  • Record financial data in general ledgers to facilitate the preparation of balance sheets and income statements.
  • Supervise the initial stages of the Accounting Cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage project budgets across multiple currencies.
  • Prepare and submit GST filings and other source deductions.
  • Execute full-cycle payroll processing for various clients using diverse software platforms such as QuickBooks, Sage 50, and Ceridian.
  • Handle bank reconciliations and full-cycle accounting tasks, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Conduct GL account reconciliations and prepare month-end journal entries.
  • Prepare year-end working papers for financial statement preparation and audits.
  • Perform client-related duties as directed, including tax return preparation and document verification.
  • Mentor junior accounting clerks in bookkeeping practices.
  • Communicate effectively on bookkeeping matters.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience in a public accounting environment, with expertise in multi-currency tracking being a significant advantage.
  • CPB certification or equivalent experience with formal training in relevant accounting programs.
  • Possession of an accounting diploma or degree (or equivalent education/experience).
  • Advanced knowledge of personal tax regulations and accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in using QuickBooks, Sage, and Xero software.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Extensive experience in payroll management and compliance with Employment Standards.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with a focus on organization and time management.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing environments.
  • Reliable and possess personal transportation.
