Overview: In alignment with a client and family-centered care model, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, and strategic objectives of Providence Health Care, this role is pivotal in fostering a safe, respectful, and civil workplace for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
Reporting Structure: The position reports to the Regional Director of Coding & Informatics, Lower Mainland Health Information Management (LMHIM). The Manager of Regional Coding Operations is tasked with the strategic planning, design, standardization, implementation, and management of centralized coding operations across multiple health organizations.
This role provides essential leadership and support to operational areas within Coding services and acts as the primary liaison for Coding Operations with the Human Resources department on staffing, recruitment, and other HR matters. The Manager is responsible for developing standard operating procedures for Coding & Informatics and ensuring their effective implementation across all coding sites. This position guarantees compliance with data submission timelines for health reporting and monitors coding productivity and benchmarking. Additionally, it provides project management leadership and represents the interests of the Regional Director on various internal and external committees.
Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education, Training, and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management is required, along with seven (7) years of relevant experience in a large multi-site organization, including four (4) years in International Classification of Disease (ICD-10 CA) coding and two (2) years in a leadership or management capacity. Project management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
Preferred registration at the Certificate level with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee operations across multiple health organizations, ensuring effective performance and establishing clear responsibilities for each site while reviewing workload assignments.
- Lead the planning and implementation of operational initiatives, assessing resource needs and ensuring completion while exploring opportunities for centralization and standardization.
- Manage operational projects by identifying requirements and milestones, developing project plans, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress.
- Determine staffing needs in consultation with the Regional Director, selecting and evaluating staff to ensure effective performance.
- Act as the liaison with the Human Resources department, collaborating with HIM and HR leaders to address human resource matters impacting operations.
- Ensure compliance with operational policies and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and developing new policies as necessary.
- Serve as a liaison between health authorities and coding entities regarding coding processes and data submission timelines.
- Contribute to the coding training program, assessing needs, developing strategies, and monitoring participation and effectiveness.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives, fostering relationships that enable operational enhancements and communicating results regularly.
- Inform budget planning and ensure adherence by monitoring expenditures and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain relationships with departmental leaders to identify ongoing health information management requirements and participate in planning sessions.
- Stay informed on current trends in information management through literature review and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with vendors to support technological advancements in coding operations.
- Participate in assigned internal and external committees.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
