About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of Community Health Services at AVI Health & Community Services. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Community Health Centre in Nanaimo and contribute to the development of a comprehensive healthcare service that promotes the health, dignity, and well-being of all people affected by HIV, HCV, and substance use.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Community Health Centre, ensuring alignment with AVI's mission, vision, and values.
    • Manage and supervise a team of non-clinical managers and staff, providing guidance, support, and coaching to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Develop, implement, and maintain administrative and operational policies and procedures that support the delivery of healthcare services.
    • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement programs that promote health equity, social justice, and harm reduction.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and funders to ensure the continued development and delivery of healthcare services.
    • Represent AVI at internal and external committees, forums, and meetings to promote the organization's mission and values.
  • Financial Management
    • Assist in the development and implementation of the Community Health Centre budget, ensuring alignment with AVI's financial goals and objectives.
    • Monitor and manage expenditures, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and agency policies.
  • Quality Improvement and Risk Management
    • Identify, mitigate, and monitor risks in the delivery of services, ensuring the safety of participants, staff, and the community.
    • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of healthcare services.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • University degree at bachelor's level in a relevant field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
    • 5-10 years of progressively senior management experience in a community health or non-profit setting.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated leadership skills in program management and supervision of diverse staff.
    • Strong management and administrative skills, including project management, report writing, budgets, evaluation, etc.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach and mentor staff, facilitate conflict resolution, foster empathic communication, and demonstrate clear boundaries.
    • Able to model ethical behaviors and consistently apply ethical standards to self and others.
  • Certifications and Training
    • Employment subject to criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations.
